HSBC UK statement PDF → Excel or CSV
HSBC UK statements are notoriously awkward to copy into a spreadsheet: the date is printed only on the first transaction of each day, each entry can run over several lines with the amount on the last one, and an overdrawn balance is marked with a D. CleanStatement was built and tested against this layout, including scanned copies.
- Runs in your browser: the statement is never uploaded
- Running-balance check flags any row that doesn't add up
- Free for 3 statements a day, no sign-up
Your PDF is converted in this browser tab and never uploaded.
What an HSBC UK statement looks like
HSBC UK statements usually have these columns. The converter maps them to Date, Description, Money out, Money in, Amount and Balance.
- Date (printed once per day, e.g. "03 Sep 26")
- Payment type and details (codes such as DD, SO, VIS, BP, ))), CR, ATM, then details over one or more lines)
- Paid out
- Paid in
- Balance (end of day; "D" means overdrawn)
What CleanStatement handles for you
- Rows without a date inherit the date of the row above, so every transaction gets the right day.
- Multi-line entries are combined, and the amount is taken from the last line of the entry.
- Balances marked D are treated as negative for the balance check.
- BALANCE BROUGHT FORWARD and BALANCE CARRIED FORWARD lines are used for checking, not exported.
- Scanned HSBC statements are supported with on-device OCR (beta).
Every release is tested against a synthetic HSBC UK-style statement that copies this layout with made-up data. Real statements vary by account type and year. If yours doesn't convert cleanly, Pro users get priority fixes for their layout.
How to download your HSBC UK statement as a PDF
- Log on to HSBC UK online banking (the website gives the easiest PDF download).
- Select the account and choose Statements.
- Pick the statement and download it as a PDF.
- Drop it into the converter above. Set Dates to DD/MM if auto-detect ever guesses wrong.
Menu names change from time to time. If you can't find the option, search for "statements" in your bank's app or website.

HSBC UK statement conversion FAQ
My HSBC statement is a scan or photo. Will it work?
Yes, in beta. Pages without a text layer go through OCR on your device. Clear, straight scans work best, and the balance check tells you if any row needs attention.
Why does a day only show one balance?
HSBC prints the balance at the end of each day. The check runs per day, and every transaction is still exported with its own row.
Is my statement uploaded anywhere?
No. The PDF is opened and converted inside your browser. Only the converter code (and, for scanned pages, the OCR engine) is downloaded to your device. Your document is never sent to us.
What does the free plan include?
3 statements per day, up to 5 pages each, with Excel and CSV export and the balance check. Pro ($9/month or $59/year) removes the limits, adds batch conversion into one merged sheet and Chinese OCR.
Converting statements every month?
Pro is $9/month or $59/year: unlimited statements and pages, batch conversion into one merged sheet, and Chinese OCR for scanned statements.

The converter reads the table layout rather than a fixed list of banks, so many other banks work too. Try any statement on the home page.
